400+ move game -- Why is this allowed?

Just finished playing a 400+ move game.  Granted, I'm playing drunk, but... seriously?  How is this even allowed?  Is there a bug in chess.com?

I offered a draw and my opponent declined, so it then became a battle of the pre-moves.

You could have claimed a draw after move 31...threefold repetition.

Oh wow.  Would have thought that after the initial draw offer it would have automatically declared the match a draw after "x" repeititions (exceeding whatever threshold).

400+ moves is crazy.

400+ moves is crazy, but you made them !

The 3 fold repetition and the 50 move rule have to be claimed, just as in otb play. It is not automatic.

The new FIDE rules on 5 fold repetition and 75 move rule do not apply on this site.

After offering a draw and having it declined, do I wait until we've done a 3-fold repetition again and then offer a draw again?  Assuming that if that's the case, that it'll automatically be accepted (irrespective of the opponent's response).

In the Threefold Repetition or 50 Moves scenario don't offer a draw... just  claim it,then the game will automatically finish. Smile

Why is it buggy ?

1) No automatic recognition of 3 fold rep draws which is very important when you are in a time critical situation as you don't have the opportunity to hit the draw button without risking a potential loss.

2) Same goes for the 50 move draw as above.

3) I just had a game where I had 15 seconds dissapear to 0 seconds in a bullet game and I lost - there is no lag recognition on chess.com

4) Losing time for pre-moves. Combined with 1+2 it essentially makes bullet games a joke because you can end up losing dead drawn games if you are playing without increments.

Combine everything above and it is impossible to take chess.com seriously. It is fine if you are a weaker player i.e. under 2000 like myself. But that is why seeing anyone at a GM level is a rarity here. If you like to play games on longer time controls and you are under 2000 it is good here.

I don't know about no lag recognition, but however they do it screws stuff up. It's hard to pace yourself on this site. I'll be keeping a good pace, playing a bit faster than my opponent, then look at the clock on move 20 and I'm behind 30 seconds... and also as you said losing extra time for premoves (I've lost more than 0.1).

I suspect it's because I enter a premove AFTER my opponent has moved, but I don't see it because of the lag, so even though I'm premoving (or so it seems) I'm still losing time...

There are strong players here, and I like the automated pairing stuff, but sadly the problems above are essential so it makes it not a good place to play IMO.

This is a 3|0 game, you're both over 1500.

IDIOTS

Threefold doesn't apply in 3|0 over 1500.

It's not really a bug, Chess.com just lets you fudge around as long as you want.

You cannot seriously be calling it a bug because chess.com implements those two rules exactly the same as in otb play?

Avatar of KirbyCake

chess.com is just bugged

for example, if you have a knight and opponent has a rook pawn it will still automatically declare insufficient mating material even though its possible to mate
