50 move draw not given

I just lost a 134 move rapid game on chess.com. My opponent had me by the throat but I soon found he/she wasn’t familiar with how to mate with rook and king v king. 60 moves each occurred without a pawn move or a capture. I expected a draw to be announced after 50 such moves each but that didn’t happen. Should I be surprised or not?

The 50-move draw isn't automatic. You have to CLAIM it. When you are eligible to claim a draw, the mouse-over pop-up text for the Draw button changes from "Offer Draw" to "Claim Draw".
