So after the 50th move is it automatically a draw? I’ve always been confused on this rule

No.

It's 50 moves without a pawn move or capture and it has to be claimed by hitting the draw button.

Any pawn move or capture wipes out the count.

OTB you have to claim the draw.

Online you have to press the draw button.
