do y’all agree?

And look what all that bullet has done to his OTB rating.  He isn't even in the top 10 anymore.

He's a pro streamer now, lol tongue.png

Karjakin almost beat Carlsen?

No way. Caruana was a lot closer. I don't care that Karjakin drew first blood in that fluke win. His play is garbage compared to Caruana, and I'm not saying that as some moronically nationalistic American, I'm saying Karjakin was playing scared. Anand put up a better fight and Carlsen crushed Anand.

He almost beat carlsen in game 9. The reason he lost game 10 was that he mentally collapsed.

I dunno man, I'll have to look back on those games.

From what I remember he was just outside of (or just inside of) the top 10, and now of course he's not even top 15. I don't think he was a good challenger.

But it's true he almost won in the sense that he got lucky. That probably made Carlsen work a lot harder and helped him break out of his slump.

Carlsens rating went down after the match.

Hikaru was very competitive for some years, but then saw that he couldn't break through the brickl wall that is magnus in classical, and focused on other parts of chess, like streaming, bullet/blitz. If that is what he prefers over studying for 7 hours a day, you can't blame him. Also, this route is probably earning him more money for much less effort. Everyone makes their choices, and hikaru made the smart one and focused on the better things

That's disrespectful and narrow-minded

He sits at home, drinking red bull, wearing a head set.  He has turned into a 14 year old.

llama44

Seriously though, Hikaru has taken an interest in investing and the stock market right? That takes a lot of study before you should begin, and I think someone in his family is in that sort of business anyway.

So yeah, he's been doing the kid thing with content creation, but I think he's also been studying financial stuff.

At least he accomplished something, unlike you.

I think,  that any self respecting athlete with a sufficiently financial mind is better off going the streaming / content creator route.   That's definitely the gold mine

Absolutely. Unless you’re right at the top of your game or sport and can live off prize money you’re way better building a name and having a following then you can make real money (I say this a runner who could potentially qualify for 2024 or 2028 Olympics but it’s the same with chess).

Of course some people aren’t in it primarily for the money.

And that is where the majority of his income is at.

Botvinnik was trained as an electrical engineer, and also taken care of by the Soviet government... so much so he was earnestly invested in the idea of the superiority of communism or something. So I dunno. He wasn't an idiot academically, but he wasn't an investor, and was taken care of by the government.

I mean the bullet, the streaming, the Red Bull, that stuff. grin.png
