Bruce Pandolfini, Beginning Chess has the sort of tactics exercises that address your present skill deficiency. You'll find similar problems in some of the posts at the link I referenced in my first comment.

Thank you guys. The more stuff, the better. :D
Not necessarily, it creates a bigger confusion in your head. Instead, focus on one topic for a month, that way it because automated. The first book I'll recommend is Fine's Basic Chess Endgames (or Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, as I've heard good things about that one), go through all the examples and sub variations. Sub variations are tough because you have to set up the board all over again then look at them, but in the end it'll be worth it.
I played Zeyrion in an Online slow game. He's pretty decent - much better than 1100, believe me.
With all due respect sir, nobody is better than their rating .......
and btw 1100 is his live rating, turn-based ratings are about 200 pts higher than live ratings ....

"Bobby Fischer teaches Chess" is as good a book as any to start with, as far as reading material. google it. :}>
Once again - What good is the knowledge he's obtained in the book if he's still hanging pieces?
Why not work on tactics until he's not and then start spending time on the bigger picture? He's not even going to understand what they're talking about if he's like 900 on tactics trainer.
bobby fischer teaches chess is a pretty basic tactics book, focusing on back rank mates. i'm not sure what you think is in that book, but you've clearly got the wrong idea.
Once again - When will some of you dinosaurs realize that tactics training websites and software are going to accomplish a LOT more than a book written 75+ years ago?

Do you mean this game? I hope you pointed out the tactica shots that you chose not to play. See the annotations for examples of a few.

1. Learn basic arithmetic.
2. It is selected examples, in a logical order. Likely to ingrain the concepts more than a random selection of problems.
3. Talking through the concepts is better for beginners than simply being given a problem to solve and being told you're wrong.

I'm surprised I've gotten so many responses, so thank you. It'll take a while to sift through what people have recommended, but I will. I'll make sure I come off of the blitz for a while, too. It's interesting to see how much people vary in their advice...

Also, I realise the 'point-system' is pretty arbitrary, too many factors going in to it and such, I just wanted to give a general idea of my current ability in the game. Or lack of ability. :)

So Ziryab, you are submitting or are you saying?? If you are submitting to me, turn in your pieces.

Just do tactical puzzles, you can ignore openings at this point. The only endgame you really need to know is how to defend king and pawn vs king and how to win king and pawn vs king

Ziryab, fully submit to me and turn the pieces in now, please. NOW.
The analysis is there. Hack away.
