I agree.  When football starts we see "Remember The Titans"  "Rudy"  "The Replacements".  When baseball starts we see "The Natural" and others.   Also when golf starts we see some golf movies, even though I can remember the names of some of the movies.  The only Chess Movie I can think of is "Searching For Bobby Fisher".  I have seen it a few times.  Maybe it just doesn't have the drama or suspense of some sports movies.  It is a good movie and even though I like chess I prefer "Remember The Titans".

Problem with chess movies is that they don't appeal to 95% of movie goers. I wouldn't take a date to one, nor a good friend... I'd have to watch it by myself which means waiting for the video to come out and less revenues for the movie producers. Thus, they don't get made.

There may be some older movies out there. There is a movie titled 'Dangerous Moves', but in mentioning this movie, I must also mention a quote I found with it;

"IF you still suspect that chess, even though it's as much a way of life as it is a game, would not be an ideal subject for a fiction film, there's nothing in Richard Dembo's ''Dangerous Moves'' that's likely to change your mind."

I've seen quite a few chess movies: The Seventh Seal, Fresh, The Luzhin Defense etc....

There are plenty of movies about chess. Try using a search engine and not expect people in this thread to do it for you.

There are no good chess movies that I'm aware of.  I was in the minority who thought "Waiting for Bobby Fischer" was awful; there was a scene where someone in a chess club had a slight freakout over losing a pawn, and I sat there thinking, this is how the rest of the world sees us.  There's another even worse chess movie where the protagonist GM is attending a tournament at the same time as a deranged killer is depositing corpses around the city in places which CORRESPOND TO CHESS MOVES!  This movie is memorable for the scene in which a hot chick, rejecting the GM's pass, tells him "You need to work on your openings."

I would be open to watching Keanu Reeves as Alexander Luzhin in the Nabokov classic, as well as somebody making Zweig's The Royal Game.

There’s another chess movie 🎥 that our teachers made us watch called the Queen of Katwe

Whats the point. You sit through the movie, its a draw at the end and you leave.

Anyone wanna practice chess?

Master GZ, as I understand it, the Queen of Katwe is a documentary about a real-life African girl who somehow became a strong chess player and made waves.  That's one of the funny things about chess; strong players can come from anywhere, and an unrated child is potentially more dangerous than a guy my age sporting my modest rating.
