Why give this topic the title: "a chess secret"?
That's the secret.
12... d5. Is the turning point, Seems like a senseless sacrifice to me. But could not second guess my betters' move.
Completly agree that is why I called my move with the pawn a blunder. It was BADDDD. :)

Because believe it or not...there are a lot of people just learning chess and do not have any direction. That was the expected audience for the post not GM's like yourself :)
immortalgamer,
I'm a beginner, but I'm using the same idea. I'm trying to master one opening with white and one opening with black. I also couldn't give a rats ass what a certain variation is technically called. I just want to master it in a broader sense. I wound't pay much attention to those guys giving you grief. They sound like they have a piece up their ass. LOL
Oh brother Loomis you are such a downer. Always negative. What does that have to do with anything?
It's still a KG setup whether you want to call it Grand Prix or not.
Also BTW. If I want to call it KG vs Sicilian I don't believe there are any rules against this. Who got to decide it was called the Grand Prix, and why do I have to adhere to that name? If chess is a game of creativity, I'm calling it whatever I want.
You're exactly like a guy in my club named Phil. He's been playing about 40 years and only plys e4 & f4 against everything too. He doesn't call everything the "KG" but whatever. You played a brilliant game!
ive mastered the KG opening i know every variation. play the kings gambit against me. i'll be able to throw some loops at you. since i know its weakness
You say you're a solid player??? Solid on what???
Certanly is not chess. And don't even try to throw that comment about your 2000 rating...cause i've seen your live chess rating as well, and it was 1700.
Do you know what that means?
I do.
If I type fiften questionary marks after each sentence will that make me as cool and rebellious as you????????
Oh and also, I've heard it's cool to be a jackass on the internet when someone is just trying to share ideas and thoughts, is that true?????????????????????????oneotwothreeYoureadySteve?
When you play do you play the same opening each time? When I first started playing I didn't know anything about openings, and just played using the basic rules of the opening to see my way through. Now that I've matured a bit in my chess, I've started to actually learn openings. Understand I could recognize, play, and name many different openings, but I haven't mastered any!
So I started a new chapter in my chess life. I want to just master 1 opening. The KG. Maybe I will never become a master of chess, but I know I can master 1 opening.
To do this requires a lot of playing of the opening in question. I play the KG against everything (KG vs Sicilian or French, or Khan, or Queens pawn, or pirc.) I want to dive into it.
Because I've started to become proficient at it (not mastered by any means), I've seen my game potential rise.
Here is an example of a KG game I played recently. I played a new move for myself Ne2 instead of the regular Nf4 to see what would happen.
On move 17 you said you were forced to play bish x pawn. You could lose a rook for pawn instead, but it isn't as good.
Thanks for people who gave me good feedback...I enjoy making posts that will help people with their chess games and I'm not trying to teach people better than me. And Ken Duff I'd love to play again although you've got the better of me last time. Weakness in the KG? Not sure what you mean? Just as good as anything else at our level. And yes I've read bobby Fischer's "bust to the kings gambit" and h4 is the answer to his line.
The h4 defense is exactly the line i was thinking about.
there is a further variation that always gives white a hard game.
its a secret tho, i'll show you but dont tell any 1. the less people know the more people i can beat with KG

How is it a King's Gambit setup? What have you gambited?
You can't just ignore that words have meanings. How about if I start calling 1. e4 2. f4 the Queen's gambit?
I'm not trying to bust on you, I think you'll be more successful in exploring the opening if you use the accepted names. For example, go online and search for King's Gambit and you won't find anything about the opening in the game you showed, but search for Grand Prix and you'll find lots of helpful information.

oh oh, I am not gonna tell anyone

Far from being an expert, but I have been doing my chess research and I want to say that there is some kind of geometrical mathematical rhythm to the causes and effect relationships of the pieces based on the fact that each square is an intersection of 16 different lines and that certain pieces travel along certain lines.
So...the openings then are ordered and specific sets of moves of pieces to and from squares hoping to have some effect on certain other squares based on the responses of the opponent.
Do you know what that means?
I do.
I don't know why anyone would say that? I personally have the same situation. I am the slowest player on earth! and that's why I do well in correspondence but not live chess. I hope I can say this is because I don't have a lot of experience. I sure hope to not always be so slow.
p.s. if anyone has any advice on being able to play faster I would love to hear it. It would do me good. Not saying playing slow is bad, but I would like to be able to play a quick game without getting destroyed
p.s. if anyone has any advice on being able to play faster I would love to hear it.
not really advice, but just a thought I had the other day...
when playing fast, the possibility of making an error or overlooking something increases.
the faster you move, what? the more likely hood of making a bad move.
I guess the Confucian thing to say would be: "see that which you don't see."

Whether it's called KG, Sicilian, English, blah blah blah.... I, for one, get your point. You see I am exactly at the point in my chess development that you describe. I don't really know much about openings. I am not even sure what opening I play! I use general principles in opening the game and I try to move along. I know this is an area I must address at some point but I don't think I'm there yet. I am still getting the feel of tactics and endgame patterns. On the other hand, I did just order (yesterday) Seirawan's Winning Chess Openings book but I want to just take a look and get a high level overview. So I do want to touch on the subject and that's how I plan to start. I find it interesting that you started the topic. I daresay there's alot of us out here that have that same feeling about openings.
12.exf5?? was a blunder. 12...d5?? is also. 12...Qxc4! would be better for black..
