A different clock should run when disconnected!!

Hi. When disconnected the clock should pause. It's insane to loose games because of a 1min disconnection when playing for 40 minutes and you are totally winning!! Is it soooo didicult to pause the clock while at the same time run a different clock for the 5 minutes return??? What do you think? And if a staff member could also answer would be great..

What about people who disconnect when losing? The game would stay on forever.

It wouldn't stay on forever because the 5 mins timer eventually would run out. In other words you have a total of 5mins to use on disconnections, other than that you loose the game bacause you disconnect too much. It's simple.

Doesn't make sense.

The game wouldn't stay on forever because the 5mins timer would be absolute which means that if you spend 3mins on a disconnection, at your next disconnection you will have 2 mins to reconnect. It's simple and makes sense.

Good luck with that.

Don't be sarcastic just because you can't understand a simple problem and it's solution.

Fulminares

There’s an inherent flaw: you can just take a screenshot and then log off to get extra time.

Manic, just so you know, the word is LOSE, not loose.  If you don't win, you lose, you don't loose.

There's another major flaw.

If someone digs towards the centre of the Earth, time would move more slowly for him, giving him more thinking time. You can get an unfair advantage because the chess.com clocks don't adjust for general relativity.

Guys why you hate so much? You even corrected ''loose'' lol! If i am mistaken just explain why, because it's not obvious to me.  An example of what i'm proposing is:  When i disconnect, my clock pauses and i ''have 5 mins to reconnect'', i reconnect in 2 mins, then when i disconnect again, my clock pauses, but i have ''3 mins to reconnect''..So if i am deliberatly disconnecting eventually time would run out. Right Kaynight and Scott or no? I am talking about programming the clock to pause when disconnected so you don't LOSE on time and count how much time you were disconnected so you can't renew the ''5 minutes to return''.

No offense, but you got a brainy brain, if that even makes any sense.

Time would pass still pass the same because even if the earth spins more slowly there would be less ground to cover

Traslation:英国人 = Enghish people,British people

你真奇怪 = you're so weird

Captain_Coconut

Manic, you really don't think it's a problem that one person can purposely disconnect to get an extra 5 minutes more than the other person?

no, if they disconnect they can't see the board anymore

Experienced players can easily remember the position (and the whole game for that matter).

But also it's very simple to copy and paste the image before you disconnect.

Speed can slow time, but also gravity.  I think he was talking about because you're closer to the center, there's more gravity, therefore time moves slower.

That's the effect of special relativity. I was talking about the effect of general relativity i.e. based on the gravity of the planet. The gravitational time delay should have a larger effect than time dilation by speed.

Of course you could play in a spaceship travelling at great speed, but I don't think anyone will go to this expense to win online chess games.

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Yes it is a problem. But I prefer to give 5 extra minutes to a desperate low player who disconnects from the game just so he can (if he can) manage his position (total lame), than losing a totally won 30 min game because of a 1 min disconnection. Besides, with the current system, the same lame player is abusing  ''the 5 mins to return'' so he can distract you, or he runs an engine while he is playing live, so it won't make any difference exept that we won't be losing games because of short disconnections.
