I actually think this was more of an intuition, and just enough calculation to make sure it was relatively safe. Once I saw the idea in the video, it just felt right. The mobile pawns on sight, along with black being tied-up, would just be decisive or at least very attractive.

Of course, seeing the idea... that's the real question. When in heck did he "see" this idea.

.....over chess even in the most "dry" positions. GM Carlsen wins just for showing up at the game. It seems nothing was going to stop him in some games.
