The Sicilian Najdorf is an opening which I have been studying recently but in a recent game I found my self playing white against it and a sacrifice was all i needed to win the game but it was a strange sacrifice - hope you enjoy the game!

Nice game but doesn't this sort of belong to "Game Showcase"?

ok...that sacrifice wasn't that weird, it has appeared many times before in even master games.

are you sure that guy's rating is 125? he played like he was at least 1000.

Good game.

no that 125 is an english grade so you x by 8 and add 600 to get an elo!

his elo would be 1600!

Well....that sacrifice was not very good...u just opened wide the a rank for his rook, should black defend better, and u would not say good things about the sacrifice.

it has been done in similar incidents before by grandmasters and is proved to sometimes be beneficial - he is a much better player than me if you look at his grade - mine is 61 (english) and his is 125 (english)!

7. Qd2 Nxe4 8. Nxe4 defends the bishop on g5. Why is this bad?

10. Bxb5 looks highly dubious...

and I'm pretty confident black had a better defence...

instead of Qb8 I think Qc4 would have been much more stubborn

thats not an elo rating. To get his elo rating you have to x8 + 600 or the other way round im not sure.

interesting anyways..

I would not consider that a sacrifice, you said it yourself in your annotations, you exchanged a Bishop for three Pawns, that's an even exchange in my book.

I think black has to start with 7.Qd2 h6, and if 8.Bh4 then Nxe4

Avatar of Loomis
That's a better try, but 8. Bxf6 and I don't see why Qd2 is so bad. The original annotator said Ne4! Sorry, I just don't see that this actually prevents Qd2.
Avatar of fredster50
no that was the irong about it - it came to the same position as the bronstein game!
