A new way of classifying diagonal movement

As any chess player knows, the movement is a mix of horizontal & diagonal, but the diagonal distance is root 2.
To make that better, I propose diagonal movements be L-Shaped & jumping as many times as the piec allows, so root 2 doesn't get near this otherwise wonderful game.

Chess is non-Euclidean. The hypotenuse is the same length as the opposite or adjacent.

A typo, but kinda funny that you could indeed describe vertical movement as a mix of a diagonal movement subtracted by a horizontal one.

Rooks moves up, down and over yonder. Knights move with a hitch in their giddy up. But the diagonal moves of the Bishop are by way the crow flies!
