A novice's question on time controls

I understand that 20/1, SD60, 5 second delay means 20 moves in 60 minutes and thereafter sudden death after 60 additional minutes with a 5 second delay throughout. I was wondering how this shows up on most chess clocks? When I program mine for this setting and push the buttons 20 times for each player it does not add 60 minutes. Am I to understand that at the expiration of the first period (with at least 20 moves in the book) that the additional 60 will pop up on the clock?? Forgive me if this is a foolish question. I have an event coming up with this time control and I want to make sure my clock is working properly. I thank you in advance of an answer. Laughing

Its a "duel timer," and I followed the manuel for two period 20/1, SD 60 preset (its is a default choice) and then you add the 5 second delay too. I take it that at 20 moves both clocks should have 60 minutes added immediately?? Or must the first 60 expire?? Thank you.

Fixed it. This particular type of clock if the "beep mode" is on it will add the time at move 20 for each player after a "beep." If silence is required it will count down each players 1st 60 minute period, and then start the SD 60 one if the 20 move part was complied with. I will have to shoot an e-mail to the TD to ask about this.
