Well i hover around 2000 - 2100 never coached but chess is not for everyone hence why mr woodpecker earns money.

I'm not talking about online, if you were 700 FIDE but 2000 chess.com, I would still call you a 700.

Same if vice vera.

I started playing OTB chess in late November 2024, I really neglected it until March, where I began to win my games and I hit a peak of 939. Then for the next 1 and a half month, I started to tilt, going back down to 849, then I went to a National tournament, and I somehow got 6th place? My rating skyrocketed to 1150, and I started getting real coaching from 2 NMs, then slowly my rating rose to 1300, then right after I hit 1300, I had a perfect score "4/4" and went from 1307 to 1491. Everything was so good, then like anything, I started to tilt again, going from 1490 to 1400, and to 1450, then back down to 1411 for 2.5 months, then finally, I had my breakthrough to 1500, after I had switched coaches to 2 IMs, then I fell right back down. I was about to give up, then somehow the next week, I went back up to 1550, then the next week, I beat a 1700 and an 1840, going to 1617, then I drew with 2 1700s in my next tournament, and I hit my peak of 1625. And now, we near the present, my ego got a little too big, I stopped studying, I lost one tourney, fell to 1550, then I lost my next big one at the Charlotte Open, going back down to 1520. Now I would've played another tourney, but the stupid snowstorm prevented that. But with bad things come good as well, I started preparing, finishing Fischer's 60 games book, and studying 30 hours THIS week. My next game is tomorrow, my 7th game of the year, I have not won a single OTB classical game in 2026. I stand at 1522, one full year of training, is this good, am I above average in growth? Also do you guys think I will get 1st place in my next big tourney (tomorrow)? I'll be really fussed if I don't. I post here in GCD because I know OTFers don't have the attention span to read a paragraph with real punctuation.

You will never improve until you start trying to learn the game for its own sake, because you enjoy it.

Reading your first post here is REALLY painful. Press the reset button! It is not about your rating. It IS about enjoyment and, hopefully, becoming a good player.

I have won a lot of tournaments, captained first division winning club teams, county championships and so on. About 20 years ago I threw away all my trophies except the club champion ones. Mainly because they were taking up too much room. Being worried about ratings is too distracting. Learn to play well, be regarded as a strong player on the club and tournament circuits. People who achieve that simply don't get distracted by ratings.

Your otb rating shouldnt be 1100 points above your online rating, chess is chess whichever firmat you play. However poor players like to dream they are better OTB.

Pray, permit me a moment of deliberate and measured articulation, for I should be most disinclined to have my sentiments misconstrued as coarse or ungenerous. It is neither my habit nor my pleasure to give offense where none is warranted; indeed, I have long cultivated the discipline of civility.

And yet, candor—when tempered with refinement—remains a virtue of no small consequence. Having observed, with patient scrutiny and no trivial investment of time, your various engagements in other public forums—as well as within the present assembly—I find myself compelled, however reluctantly, to acknowledge that the particular classification of individuals you speak of, by all reasonable deduction, be understood to encompass your good self.

andd block!

I'm 1600 OTB and going for NM this year, you shouldn't judge someone because you don't have a life, so get one instead of wasting your time.

However regardless of the intended recipient of your message, I found it my duty that I replied. Again, any offense received was unintentional I assure you.

I assure you, no offense was intended to be handed out. I do my best in all public spaces to remain civil, and to prevent fighting. Unfortunately, in this case it appears offense has been taken. Perhaps it was unavoidable, but in any case I should like to apologize, as I was merely stating my opinion based off previous experiences.
