A red toxic symbol for time wasters.

So we've all played them, its mate in 2 or you've just won their Queen, but rather than resign or play on they make you wait 10mins while the clock runs down. If your really lucky they might call you a few bad names, disconnect, come back and continue to make you wait.

I just played this guy mexron and that's exactly what he did, after the game I went to his profile were a list of others had left complaints about his behaviour, and that's just the ones that took the time to write something.

So why can't we give people like this some bad sportsman symbol? (a red cross or scull). When they get 10 of them people will be warned before a game starts and given the option to abort. After 6mths 1 symbol will be removed every month, that way they get the message and its not in their interest to re-offend.

Its all well and good people warning you about someone in their bio, but if you dont know until the games over it seems a bit pointless.

I'm all for it and while we're at it can we give people a number next to there name of how many games they gave up on just because they didn't think they could win?

the traditional yet strong ethos of 3 strikes and youre out would improve the behaviour of the feckless and dishonourable no end. :-D

Yea, the reason I thought of 10 is gives them the benefit of the doubt. A couple of times might be genuine connection trouble and another 2 or 3 might be people that don't like them and click it for spite. That'd leave plenty of room for error so its only wankers that get the full 10.

I don't mind players giving up as long as they resign.

TheGreatOogieBoogie

Your opponent played quite anti-positional hope chess.

1...a6 I thought he was giving me odds. 5.Nc3 happy to give the pawn back for 6.Nd5 hitting Qe7 & c7. 13.Bg5 (13.e5 straight away is better). 28.Ne3 (28.Ne7! Rd5 29.Bxd5).

A near disaster, after 32.Nf5+ I disconnected, when it came back it was an empty board. I thought he'd resigned so went to my game archive to go over it, but it wasn't there?? logged back on and saw the corner of a tab saying current game - got back in with a minute left. I'd of been pretty angry to have lost from there.

It's funny when you think you're getting into one thing (A St.George Defense) when you're actually getting a somewhat gimped version of the Englund!  You may as well have been given odds.

5.Nc3! was simply excellent, from there the queen is forced to watch the weak c7 point and gets bounced around quite abit and eventually lost a piece.  It was disrespectful of him not to resign at that point.

Instead they stall hoping you'd be AFK long enough to lose on time.  It's a very cheap tactic.

Thanks brumtown ;-)

TheGreatOogieBoogie The real infraction came after my last 42.Qc8+ mate in 3, he sent a bunch of untranslatable one word messages - sikrir & sijrir (whatever they mean) - then let his remaining 12mins run down.

I hate losing too, but when your beat you've just gotta accept it and move on.

That guy is irrelevant, he was just an example. The general point is if there were a way to flag people that behaved in that manner, and once they'd been flagged enough times, people would be given that info at the start of the game and then they could decide, facts in hand, if they still wanted to play, simple.

pjreed

Im currently 'playing' a game with a guy who hasnt moved in 20 minutes. I did read his notes beforehand but gave him the benefit of the doubt. I dont think I'll be playing members who have these kinds of notes again, however if I abort too often I'll be the one getting punished by being forced to play games I know that will be a waste of my time, as I'd rather be playing and not just sitting and waiting. Something must be done surely?

Troll4ever22

How about an unobtrusive accronym after their user name?

Something like Time Waster Account Title.

Or T.W.A.T for short.

wanmokewan

They are doing something else Kay.  They're whining on forums.

Dirty_Sandbagger

Toxic Symbols should be green not red imho.

wanmokewan

When was the last time you had your sandbag cleaned anyway?

Dirty_Sandbagger

But I like it dirty!

wanmokewan

That's fine; I'm just wondering.

The funny thing about timewasters is that even though they might get a higher rating because people just resign, they then have to deal with harder and harder players.
