What's weird about it?

They are asserting there is one best way to mate here.

I guess that explains why it is rated so high.

I think if I do not give up my rook, every other moves could also lead to checkmate.

Hmm. Your profile says you are rated 2300. I am sure you know how to use the opposition.

You’re right. That puzzle is absolutely ridiculous.

I mean it's not forced to mate in least amount of moves unless u give up ur rook you are fine, so must not be like that.

You can't give up the rook and still mate.

Most puzzles are generated automaticl for analysis of games played here. What if the website  detects that one player only has a single winning move, it considers it as a candidate for a puzzle. What happend here is most likely, that black was already close to the 50 move rule and only one move could force a mate before breaking that rule.

Unfortunatly, the player of the puzzle will not be able to know that. Therefor it is a bad puzzle. You can report those puzzles using the exclamation mark button and they might get removed

If you're presented with a mate no matter what puzzle, the solution is mating in as few moves as possible.

There are a number of these in the database and if you don't, they are draws due to the 50-move rule. If you check the FEN, you'll see that's the case.

This is My Favourite Piece For CheckMATE. There is nothing To be Surprise, One Will Get CheckMATE. I learnt this trick by Self, without Any Computer Aid. I AlwAys Give Away Big pieces And only keep Rook to Surprise the Opponent.

I´m not shure, why this puzzle here is called "weird"...... can´t see any special thing here. But I have to disagree with people who say: if you don´t loose your rook every other move leads to checkmate. Hey, here it is much more dangerous to stalemate the opponent than to loose the rook.

I'm good enough to not stalemate with rook and king, I think you would also not stalemate, so it's not the problem.

There is a correct set of moves to achieve mate which a 2700 would know, this is the puzzle.

To solve it correctly demonstrates knowledge of opposition.

Yes, but you mentioned in your text that you will win when you don´t loose your rook. For myself it is much more possible to fall into a stalemate trap then to loose my rook. That´s why I said it in the comment.

Ok, don't be much scared of stalemate just play the technique to mate watching out stalemate and not hanging the rook.

Avatar of justbefair

I actually like the puzzle. It's a mate in 7 with the right technique.

I think this "weird" thing was nothing but a trick that the people have a look at the threat....
