abandon vs resign

Why do so many players not resign when they’re beat, but rather just do nothing and let the game be abandoned a minute later? Does that mean they slammed their laptop shut, or threw their phone against the wall? Why not just resign and move on? Seems like it would be faster. And a little nicer.

"Resigns" is for gentlemen and sportsmen. "Abandon" is for losers.

More and more often people aren't even saying goodbye when they hang up the phone anymore. Sadly, manners and being considerate are not a thing anymore.
