Abandoned game

Hello. I'm relatively new here so I have a question about abandoned daily games. When an opponent's time runs out does his loss have an effect on his, respectively mine, rating? I played a few games and in one of them the opponent just didn't make  a move and when the time ran out our ratings didn't change. Was that a bug or just how it is?

It might have been an unrated game.

Well no, I started the open challenge and it was rated. 

I believe a game needs to get at least 3 moves in before it will impact your rating.

We were halfway through the game...

Looking at your rating from your previous daily games, it looks like your rating did change for the games where your opponent timed out.

Do you have a link to the game in question?

One other possibility is that your opponent timed out of more than 5 consecutive games. In that case rating changes no longer happen on subsequent timeouts.

I was playing on the phone, is it possible that it didn't change right away? If not and I've made a mistake, well...this is embarrassing... 

Yeah,  both of those games show your rating increased.

I suppose that's possible. On my computer, it shows your rating going up from 1135 to 1197 then to 1232 after your two games against belgie2004.

And to answer your question about trophies, they don't really do anything. They are just for you to be more sociable with your opponents and maybe try to make some friends.
