Abandoned Games - how annoying

What can be done when an opponent inexplicably abandons  a game after making a few moves?

After five or ten minutes, we should be able to play a new game with a new opponent who wants to play.

What are these "Abadoned games" you speak of?  This has never been brought up in these forums before...

It is better for an opponent to just abandon a game and save you time instead of forcing you to wait for a timeout. If you agree chip in

They simply don't move, and I had to wait 27 minute to move on to the  next game. It is annoying.

You could upgrade to premium.  Premium members can play multiple games at a time, so when your opponent starts to stall you can start a new game

Stinks, but the only thing you can do is block them.

I must have 1,000+ players blocked at this point. I block players who bail out. I block players who talk ugly. I block players when I don't like their gangster screen name or their picture doesn't agree with me (certain types).  I even block players for simply turning off chat (I assume their kids or panzies... either way, I don't want to play them).

What the hell.... there's apparently millions of players here. Block away!!!!!

How can you have 1000 players blocked when the max is 200?

lexbabu

True those who also disable chat should be shamed there is no research or material that concretely proves that not chatting improves your chess knowledge or command I mean now that you don't want to chat you think you will become a hot Bobby Fischer what lunacy

Fisheyedfools. Who cares if the topic comes up a lot. He asked a question. He wanted an answer. It doesn't affect your life. Some of us have lives and don't spend all our time on this forum

There aught to be a button for this, like say after five minutes you click it and your opponent has say two minutes to move or lose.  I play a 15/10 and have had opponents discover they are losing half way through the game and they just quit playing, I am let twiddling my thumbs for the remainder of the time.

This is really annoying and at the end they still lose points so why don't losing opponents just resign

Usually if they leave there is an auto abort.

Perhaps they had to put the iPad down and run to help someone?
I'd they leave the app it aborts, so I'm not sure.

And if this s about when it's a lost position, see the other 100s of threads on this topic. IF this thread is about that... Just check the others for your answer.

It's probably because people have abused them on chat in the past. It'd happened to me, but I still keep it on.

Then you assume a lot. I disable chat on general principle and yet I don't consider myself a "pansy". Perhaps you're too easily offended??

maybe people are abandoning games for certain reasons like they have to do something off-screen that is important, but we can't lie that there have been so many trolls out there abusing others who genuinely want to play a decent game for whatever reason, its so irritating I wish chess.com could do something, i mean we can't be waiting for each game until the time runs out

knighttour2

The best way is to form an invitation only group and kick out people who abandon games

but what if you don't have anyone you know on the website (assuming you're new) and you can't invite them?

knighttour2

Someone who's been here a while would have to do it. In fact there probably already is such a group. Have you tried looking?

My issues with this is...

If someone has a question, there is certainly nothing wrong with asking.  The issue i have is that why not search for the question, and see if its been asked before?  Do your own leg work first, and find the answer if the question has been asked before.

What is quicker?

Typing the question, or searching "Abandoned games"
