Abandoning games

I really like this App, but I am sick of people running away when they are losing rather than resigning. So many on here do it, what is wrong with these people?

They are inevitable in online chess, hence the more important question: what are you going to do?

Why are they inevitable? Presumably the culprits don't like it when it's done to them, so why do they do it to others

I dont bother with "why" in this case

They don't like it so they presume you won't like it. You damaged their precious rating, and they seek to punish you for it. Lack of maturity. Report them. Enough reports and they supposedly get put into a separate group. ( Poor players pool )

It’s the same behaviour that plagues any online platform. People acting up because the protection of a screen name. As much as I don’t want to see a world where your online activities are all 100% tied back to your legal id/name… it would sure make online gaming a better place. Give people and inch and they’ll take a mile if they think they can get away with it. At least online chess.com has fewer exploits and general annoyances, they are limited to abandoning games or full blown cheating with engines. Most online games have dozens of active exploits dorks use for a variety of reasons. I play games for the challenge, not just to see the screen say winner… so ya I do not understand these people either.

Whatever happened to basic good manners and decency, I actually thought most people who played chess would possess these basic human traits... Silly me

Are you serious? You practically have to be autistic to be halfway good at chess.

What a really strange thing to say

Manners, I remember them but they went out of fashion in the 1980s onwards...

How about a 10 point penalty for players who abandon games?

A lot of people just don’t know how to take a loss or they're too terrified of losing their rating. It honestly feels more like an issue with player psychology in online gaming than a problem with the game itself. I would also like to recommend this site, it has lots of cool games and you don't need to worry about your rating, all you need to do is win and collect your winnings, there are also lots of bonuses that increase your prizes.

Terrified of losing rating? I see no logical connection between 'being terrified' and abandoning the game. Any kind of punishment for abandoning is ridiculous and unfair to people whose connection is simply lost for whatever reason. Finally, the moaning about 'bad sportsmanship' is really childish. We play to win and to destroy the adversary; chess is a cruel game. Do not expect sympathy from the guy you have just crushed

More than 30% of my games are won by abandonment I myself never do that. To me that’s lack of self control and reviewed as a weakness. If the position is so lost that you can’t secure a draw, just resign, move on. Your opponent outplayed you, learn from it and grow stronger.

Spare us the sermon. Nobody here signed up for your behavior re-education camp. Unless you're a mod enforcing actual rules, stop trying to shape the community to fit your personal high standards

You are clearly one of the people we are talking about as evidenced by your obvious lack of manners (look it up)
