Aborted games

Are there any penalties attached to aborting a game?

chess.com employs a Fair Play Policy in Live Chess. One of the criteria of this policy is that players must not "frivolously abort games because they don't want to play black, etc." Doing so will result in consequences (e.g, limited playing options).

However, the fact that there actually IS an abort button available very early in the chronology of each game, suggests that at least its infrequent use is certainly permissible.

As a follow-on to my original post, I keep getting new opponents who never even make a single move.  Do I have to keep them on my list until they time out, or is it O.K. for me to abort the games?  I've already done so several times already, and I hesitate to keep doing it, because I don't know exactly what is meant by "frivolously aborting games" in the Fair Play Policy.  Could a member of the Staff possibly clarify this?  Thanks.

I accidentally started a game the other night when I was about to go to bed, and I aborted, was that bad ?

I don't know, Kittysafe.  Perhaps the same person who answers my question will be able to answer yours.  I guess what we need is a list of reasons for aborting that are considered acceptable.
