Aborting a game

I'm new and in the process of friending my dad so I can play a turn-based game with him. In the process of getting him in my "friends" list, I must have inadvertently invited a random other person to play. How do I abort that game while I'm waiting for my dad's friend request to come through?

I don't think you can abort a turn-based game.  Live, yes, much discussion of that in the forums.  It's a rated game otherwise I'd say just resign, which of course is an option if you really don't want to play.  Why not just play the game though; you'll get a little practice in, familiarize yourself with the controls and at 3 days per move there isn't much time pressure to move.  It's not really fair to your opponent of course but you can also just wait 3 days and the game will go away although you'll take a loss.

If neither person has played then you can abort the game without any repercussions (e.g. changes in rating). If one or the other has already moved, however, there's really nothing you can do unless go ahead and play the game or, as baddogno says, wait it out and take it as a loss. I'd play it though just to see.

You're right, I'm wrong again as usual.  According to the FAQs for online chess you have the option to abort before any moves have been played.  As soon as a move has been played, the abort option is gone and all you can do is resign.  I'll admit I never noticed an abort button...

So since the OP is playing white in the game she should be able to abort it.
