Abuse Report Follow-up

I just finished a 15 I 10 game in which my opponent waited until I was about to win to start verbally berating me and then when I was mate 1 proceeded to make me wait 17:40 for the game to time out. When I told him he was violating chess.com policies, he said that nothing would happen to him because he has a paid account. Is this true? Can chess.com users with paid accounts verbally abuse opponents and make them wait 17+ minutes on a 15 I 10 game without any consequences? He seemed pretty confident that nothing would happen to him or his account. I reported it, but like him, I am skeptical that anything will come of it. Has anyone else had terrible experiences like this with chess.com? Will chess.com do anything to stop this user from continuing to abuse other users? If they do anything to stop him, will I be notified?

They wont close an account for abuse like that, at least not right away. First they give warnings. If they keep doing it and are reported more then eventually their account can be closed.

By the way, it's typical of this kind of person to say things like "I wont be banned because ____"

Sometimes they say they are a mod, or they know or mod, or they've been doing it a long time and know loopholes, or etc. Saying they're a paying member is the same thing. None of it is true, it's just to make you mad.

The best thing to do when they start using the chat like that is just disable the chat. Luckily, if you're 1 move away from mate, you can even premove it so that you don't even need to pay attention to the screen at all.

Please keep reporting behaviour like this, as every report helps inform the actions and conversations that we have with members: there are also some automated actions that occur if an account has been reported a lot by different members. Action may not be immediately visible, but it does make a difference.
