Add a "report player" button with a standard couple of reasons

I agree it would be nice to have a button with several default options. Perhaps:

  • Delay of game
  • Abusive chat

By forcing you to write an email, they discourage many of the less serious reports.

With a button, some people would report their opponents after every game. Some people would report opponents who refuse a rematch. Or those who play out drawn positions. Or those who won't resign in a lost position.

I don't think those things should merit "reports". They are just part of the game.

I also wouldn't want to see some people get the chance to flag every loss because of suspicion that an engine was used. Many new players come to the forum libeling their opponents. Fortunately, that is prohibited.

A button would cause as many problems as it solves. It wouldn't give Support the necessary detail to identify the real problems you get with the Contact email. That could have legal implications if they missed a serious abuse problem. They do deal pretty quickly with serious problems.

Upvote? What site do you think you are on?

Don't let it anger you. You won the game. Move on.

It may be a good suggestion, but two negatives come to mind when making such reports easy:

1) A large increase in reports might overwhelm staff with less serious abuses.

2) False reports as a form of abuse against an opponent (trying earnestly to find a way out of a forced mate would sometimes be indistinguishable from letting the clock run down on purpose).

Just block and move on.

Just improve your rating - when you get above 2000 the opponents are FAR less abusive and annoying (I know from personal experience of this).

That may take a little too long for the OP...

They can use their time as they see fit. They might not realise they are in a losing position and are trying to think their way out of it.

Or they may just be jerks like the OP said. But it doesn't matter. When play you must be prepared for your opponent to use all the time on his clock. You know some people are going to do it. There's no way to stop them. When it happens to me I pick up a book or try to convince myself Trump won't get us all killed.

I do not think, reporting should be anywhere near automatic. If you feel like reporting, go to help section, open ticket and wait. Simplifying reporting might simply make staff less sensitive to risen issues and effect in too much leniency. Chat can be disabled, and people disconnecting games are anyway recorded. It's like asking for instant coffee to be shipped already blended with sugar.

On the bright side you can appreciate infrequency of rude and bullish behaviour while playing.

I am extremely upset,I have been accused of cheating by [username removed], I explained that I would never cheat and that I never have, that cheating is not true chess and I wouldn't get any satisfaction from cheating,he /she.. says the computer made a move Nc3 ETC ,I don't have a computer and I explained that if a computer made that move,I'm unaware of it ,I wish to continue playing on chess.com as it's great, but if I get abuse and accusations of cheating.. when I am not... it makes me feel like not playing on chess.com and only at my local club, where I have been a member for 15 years, even though I was clearly Winning, because of the false accusations,I resigned.. I took note of the players username.. [removed].. and I most certainly won't be playing [removed] again- he/she also stated that I'm not a true chess player- along with other insults, all my club friends and my friends on chess.com .. know that I would not cheat,I've played many players, over a considerable amount of time on chess.com ,some have been cocky, but this is the first time that I have been wrongly accused of cheating and been thrown insults at me !😡

[Please do not make accusations in the public forums; the FAQ has some great tips for dealing with unpleasant behaviour, and if it really upsets you, you can report it to the Support team via https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new. Thanks - @David, moderator]

Someone after game told me "New chess engine, hm?", I found it very pleasing.

I know, it's just funny to say it. Imagine if someone worked really hard to get to 2000 level just to avoid the trolls?

Be grateful for it. Teaches you patience. They only succeed in making you angry if you allow it to. Just relax and unwind.

I've never played a human so I really don't have a say here, but I share the OP's view about "you-know-what"  where we just don't see the point in it... What do you gain? It's self-deluding.

HOWEVER!... as an experiment, I think much could be learned by having feedback as to who feels offended and who ELICITS such feelings... Developing a behavioral database, so to speak.

I let the time expire, bag the win & then "block" that player. Move on!

Honestly there may be a mate in 3 or even a draw and I may not see it. This would result in a lot of reports that no real foul play was taking place due to simply being new to the game or not very good like myself.
