Great idea. I think this is a much more useful form of the game to attempt to popularize than Chess360. The basic addition to the game is in the form of two new pieces, the chancellor, that can move like either a rook or a knight [of course, a queen moves like a rook or bishop] and the archbishop, that can move like a bishop or knight. The two additional spaces in the 10 slots are occupied by a chancellor and an archbishop.
I didn't realize that the new board was not 10x10. The larger board might be interesting too.
Capablanca chess (or Capablanca's chess) is a chess variant invented in the 1920s by former World Chess Champion José Raúl Capablanca. It incorporates two new pieces and is played on a 10×8 board.
