I am a new chess player, I have been playing on and off for a month and I would like some help in improving my game. For the record, my goal is to make my high school's chess team, I attend a prestigous private high school. For that goal, I ask for advice, openings, books, youtube channels, blogs etc. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your responses.

Best wishes, have_another

Believe it or not, others have faced the same problem. You may learn from their previous queries:

PS WIth a blitz rating of 1000, you are probably more than good enough to make the team already. Do you know the ratings of the people who competed last year?

Looking over a few of your games, you should study a few basic openings. The study plan directory is an attempt by chess.com to provide exactly what you asked for.

In this game, you were well on your way into trouble after only 3 moves.

You should try some slower time control games and see if that makes any difference in your ability to spot hanging pieces.
