I'd like to spend more time analyzing my games but I am not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Any advice or articles you could point me to for learning how to do better analysis?

Thank you & Happy New Year! ! !

The simplest advice I can give you is to first analyze your position at a physical board. Many players nowadays make the mistake of going straight to the computer after their games and spitting out variations and evaluations without really understanding what they're looking at. Go through the game yourself, ask where you could have improved your play, exploited weaknesses, etc. I advice you to write down plans or moves in certain positions. Afterwards, you can go on the computer and use the chess engine, but this is secondary. This will help you verify whether or not your personal analysis was accurate. It's also always helpful to have an experienced coach or mentor to go over your games as although a machine can tell you variations, it can't explain the concepts behind the moves.
