I think you are confusing Kasparov with someone else. He played all the top tournaments, and won almost all of them.

Maybe you counted all the meaningless online tournaments for Carlsen? I don't know.

I'm not. Kasparov played much less tournaments than Magnus. Last year for instance Magnus played 11 . Show me a year Kasparov played that much. Kasparov never played more than 4 , later only 1 in a year perhaps. And when you play so less it's easier to maintain quality as I said already. And I'm not considering Magnus' online tournaments.

Last year Magnus played only one tournament (Norway Chess) plus the Olympiad, and skipped all the others. He plays mostly rapid and blitz tournaments, but those are almost meaningless.

Of course you have to include rapid and blitz especially nowadays. Kasparov played in a different era when rapid and bltz weren't popular like today but now rapid and blitz are just as important. Moreover it's about who's the best chess player, so one must include all formats. As long as it's a FIDE sanctioned event there's no denying it.

Carlson is better than Kasparov in terms of quality and playing.

Always tough as different eras. No one played like GK and no one played like MC. Mentally GK could crush you with a move and made sure you knew that it was solid and painful. MC mentally plays reeling you in the same time like he's going after a big fish
