agressive vs passive

so you want to be passive and defend and make a race when you can't be aggressive? just let him attack the piece and retake back the piece with another and bam you have got a piece that moved a free move and you earned development... want to play agressive and make all his development vanish? kill his pieces!
every move you do is either a passive or aggressive one

Theres a balance. I used to be much less aggressive than I am now. I would play an OTB tournament and go 2-0 or 2-1 with White and 0-3 or 1-2 with Black. Eventually I learned you have to make threatening moves if you want to win. There are games where I couldn't counterattack as Black for 30 moves in closed positions, but I made enough threatening moves to keep my pieces active.
