I am dumbfounded that Capablanca was able to subdue him. I guess once you understand someone's mindset, it makes all the difference. Having said that I just realized that, Mikhail Tal would probably have been one hell of a poker player ....
Yes Lasker was one of the strongest WC's I think. Tal thought he was the best.
I am a huge Capa fan, him being my country man, but he played lasker when he was 60 years old. Lasker had impeccable technique all around. His double bishop sacrifice game was ridiculous lol. I feel that lasker's style was a mix of karpov with Tal tactical abilities. I like the section about lasker's endgame in the endgame book by silman.
That is eye opening and makes me think of Petrosian
at 62, Karpov is still rated well over 2600 and plays sometimes...
Check out his games vs Pillsbury. He has a game where he was making ridiculous moves, I almost felt bad for the guy. He was also a great mathematicians and devoted plenty of time to science.
This goes to show how great lasker was. 3-1-4 vs alekhine. I feel that lasker is overlooked as one of the greatest of all times. He was spanking everyone for till he was 60 years old. He was a great tactician, unsurpassed endgame technique and reigned for a very long time.
