You have your preferred choices; I have mine. It's not a question of missing (except for the X) anything.

I'm not familiar with Urosoff, so I think Uhlmann would be good for U.

There were two famous chess-playing Urosoffs (or Urusovs or Urusoffs or Urosovs - transliteration gets confusing), Dmitri and Sergei.  Their pictures are HERE.  They were contemporaries of Petroff, Schumoff and Jaenisch. More about them can be found HERE.  They were really quite famous.

So I guess Uhlmann doesn't do it for U.  Wink

Nope.  I'm a 19th century kind of gal.

I imagine you knew Petroff wanted to play Morphy and they even had a meeting in Paris in 1863. Dmitri Urusoff had written to Morphy, tendering a challenge from 65 y.o. Petroff, but nothing ever came of it.

By the way, in between making rude comments in the forums, I really appreciate all the great and informative articles you write.

What rude comments?

'Twasn't my comment.

I think he was saying that in between his posting rude comments in forums that he likes reading batgirl's articles.

Thanks. I most definitely would rather be informative than rude.

My own rude comments, e.g. "Wow you're old..."

Fischer and Bronstein are the two modern players that stand out among all the oldies. For a personal favourites list nothing wrong with picking Bronstein, otherwise Botvinnik would not be a bad pick. The same thing with preferring Kieseritzky instead of Kasparov, Karpov, Korchnoi, etc...

Avatar of fabelhaft

I'd pick Steinitz rather than Showalter.
