Am I overrated?

I feel I’m overrated. My rating is 2300+ in blitz but when I compare myself with much lower rated players I feel I’m not good in any aspect but still I can crush them even a piece down, I really don’t know why.

I know very little about openings, I’m good in 2-3 openings (not as good as typical 2300+ players) but in the rest of openings I know nothing valuable. If I play against an opening that I don’t know its theory I take my opponent out of opening book early in the game to destroy their preparations.

You might say I’m good at tactics, not really, my tactics rating is reasonably high and I make chaos in the games, accept all gambits and so on, but when I see much lower rated players have only slightly lower rating in tactics I cannot understand why I’m much better than them?!

Well you may say my endgame knowledge is deep, not really until recently I didn’t know two knights and a king can mate a lone king (in some positions).

I’m also not strategical player, most of my openings are pretty sharp.

My opponents make stupid mistakes especially under pressure and I win. Why they should make such mistakes when they are better than me in every aspect? I feel everything is fake.

Well you’re definitely better than me if that makes you feel better.

@SpacePods, fair enough, I should have much better knowledge and understanding than you. But many 1700-1800 players have better knowledge than me and they aren’t weak in tactics.

Probably just natural talent that you don't pay much attention to because it was always there. It's like a 1200 rated person saying they want to be 1800 and when they get there they still feel dumb. That happened to me and many others. A strong chess player doesn't see themselves as strong because we are always trying to get better.

All of your opponents are strong too so you're not beating up on bums. You should be happy. I know I would be...for a minute and then I'd feel dumb again against better players.

i just thought he needed a hug. so i gave him one.

Avatar of goldenbeer
@contentchess, I learned chess by playing with very little/zero reading. I don’t understand rating differences. I feel soon I should be able to hit 2400 but this feeling comes only from the performance I have in the game. But knowledge or speed improvement: zero.

its called blitz my friend anything can happen... even a player like me can blunder horribly

Avatar of Contenchess

It's Contenchess. NOT Contentchess. Like Contentious but spelled in a chess way. Don't ever get my name wrong ever again 😡

Avatar of Contenchess

Anyways...You're probably just one of those natural talent players who has to decide if he/she wants to study to get better. Most natural talents quit when it gets hard. Remember Josh Waitzkin?

lol

Avatar of Contenchess

2300 blitz here at chess.com is about 1900 Fide so you're good but we are not going to have a parade for you. Strong club player with natural talent that with studying could be good.

I dont think so

Avatar of goldenbeer
@chessadepti, it’s not about a single game, many of my wins are like this, many of my opponents are titled players.

BTW, your blitz rating is way better than your title, congratulations.
Avatar of goldenbeer
@Contenchess, I think 2300 blitz is much better than 1900 fide, it should be around 2200 fide (doesn’t mean I’ll be that range). When I was weaker, I played a rapid championship in our local club and won the first place with 6 consecutive wins, most of my opponents were above 2100.
Avatar of goldenbeer
Also here many of my opponents are titled players (cm, fm, IM and sometimes GM), and my opponents rating is usually close to me. Don’t look at Chessdepti that has only cm title, he/she probably soon hit the bar (perhaps because of corona didn’t play many otb games).

I really have a feeling that everything is fake, couldn’t work this way.
