probably. I think one can easily be beaten a player within 200 points of your grade. The same thing happens to me at a higher level. I am around 1800 but sometimes I lose badly to people who are 1600.
Am I really as good as my rating says??

You might lose often to considerably lower-rated players because of overconfidence, not playing strength. This happens to me quite often, as I usually score very well against people with the same rating or a higher one. But then I ruin it all by joining a tournament, get paired with an opponent several hundred points below me, think "oh, this is such an easy game so I might as well not even play the best moves. I'll just try to run him down on the clock." And what do you know, I end up playing well below my level and simply get crushed.

i dont think ur rating is good
Play me and we'll see.
I think he was talking to HSCCnickS

There are surprisingly decent players below 1000. They come with all sorts of tricks and shenanigans. Watching youtube videos on traps and tricks, you never know what will come at you. I have been humbled by some lower rated players plenty of times. If they did it legitimately, my hats off to them.

The problem of playing vs lower rated players is that about half of them are not newbies, they are experienced players who didn't improve rating due to multiple reasons(?not learning systemically). They can sometimes do tricks and traps to you, always careful.
I currently just hit my best rating at 866, but I still get roasted by 600 and 700 players the same way I would by 800 players. So it begs the question, am I as good as my rating says I am? And does anyone else have a similar feeling?
