You must be thinking of the Alapin. That is a variation of the Sicilian, though: 1.e4 c5 2.c3. I have also heard it refer to 1.e4 e5 2.Ne2, but never a line of the English or QGD. Are you sure it is the Alapin? If so, what moves define it as such?
