As it happens, Anand has named the American Bobby Fischer the greatest chess player in history. You may go back to the drawing board now.

I like to feel superior to average soccer fan : I for one play a game in which people who don't have a clue about the game don't do psychological commentary, don't go into chauvinistic nationalism and sheepishly support "their" team against all odds, and behave in a courteous manner no matter what terrible fate struck them.

DAILYWATERSITTING

Irontiger, it would never have thought that chess was going to be contamined by the football-type fans and ""philosophy"... it's incredible, how did it happen? Internet strikes (badly) again...too many people can talk about too many things... ahhh it's a lost war anyway...

ColonelKnight

Maybe Internet is the cult of the amateur, but as long as people on it produce such brilliant parodies of mainstream "stuff" like Miley Cyrus, I'm not complaining about it. Imagine all the sellouts wouldn't even have a chance to know the alternatives. That said, fanbois are the scourge of anything, even WCC.

As an Indian raised in America if like to see anand win but the truth is carlsen is simply better. Anand won the candidates becAuse he played solid chess and took advantage of his opponents blunders. Winning. 3 games out of 14 is not impressive at all compared to carlsens +5s he regularly gets in tournaments and his candidates matches.

That plus the fact that anand doesn't play in any tournaments until the match doesn't help him at all. I'd like to think that playing in tournaments helps with the psychological aspect especially when he plays his biggest nemeses other than carlsen liek aronian nakamura caruana etc...

The anand that played against kasparov and Karpov in the world championship and fide matches would have a great chance at winning but the anand post kramnik match doesn't show much promise

When does Carlsen regularly score +5 in candidates matches. He's won one candidate tournament and he won it less convincingly than Anand did.

exactly ..Carlsen was very lucky indeed to even qualify from the candidates that he scraped through in whereas Vishy strolled through in his latest candidates tournament..Vishy was out of form last time he played Magnus in the WCC, I doubt very much that Vishy will play as badly as he did in the first match and consequently I expect vishy will narrowly beat Magnus to reclaim his title

PacificPatzer

Saying Anand will win the next WC is pretty audacious considering he didn't win a single game in the last one. Just because Anand is doing good doesn't negate the accomplishments Carlsen has been making. Who has all three titles right now? -- Not Vishy!

Carlsen has youth on his side. Difficult to beat.

The England football team had a lot of young players in their team at the World Cup and they were not difficult to beat at all.

Candidates 2013 was one of Carlsen's weakest results in the last 18 months, whereas Candidates 2014 was arguably Anand's best result in the same time period. You did not provide any proof that Anand was out of shape during his match with Carlsen.

The proof you talk about is there for all to see in the match ...Anand made very uncharacteristic blunders in that match ;many of those blunders  were not forced by Magnus ..Vishy was demonstrably out of form. it is unlikely that he will be offering early christmas presents this time round particularly now that the pressure will be on Magnus this time as the defending champion.

Candidates 2014 was Anand's by far best result in six years, and I doubt he ever will score such a great result again.

It's stupid to believe someone as good as Anand is just going to get steamrolled by Carlsen again.

The result last time was the expected one according to the rating of the players. Anand has had trouble also with many other of the younger players, he has for example 0-4 against Nakamura in classical and 0-7 in all formats.

DAILYWATERSITTING

Then why did he get steamrolled in 2013? He was good, he was 5 time world champions then! lol ... your profile picture just shows how immature you are.

DAILYWATERSITTING

Look, it's plain blindness and a sign of little man to use a gentlemen's game like chess for childish behaviour and escapades... just immature!
The game which is being played in your picture, is from a tournament Carlsen won. But I think you'll never get it. If Carlsen wins again, you'll come back saying "oh well Anand blundered but he is 5 times world champion"... bahhh
