I play becaus I love the game. It's that simple for me.
And You Play Chess Because ---

I play because I get a kick out of terminating & really love the game. Plus I have an overactive mind compared to most people. My mind never stops thinking so it helps me not get depressed

I enjoy the challenge and I feel like learning chess is a bit different from many of the other things that I do. Not to mention that it's a very complex game with a lot of room to improve and get better. Most of all chess is interesting and fun, I guess there's enough reason for one. :-)

i play chess because it saved my life. I started playing chess during several inpatient rehabs and found that the game teaches me simple life lessons that I never learned while actively using drugs like - thinking before making a move- time management- planning and problem solving skills. Before I found chess I could not get clean for more then a few months. i love this game and everything it offers to anyone willing to put some time and effort into learning it. plus its fun and healthy
Sometimes people in the threads here ask why anyone would play Chess, after all it is not one of those fast paced video games. In my case I'm old enough to remember a time when we did not have video games ( Pinball games were a big thing years ago ). I do enjoy playing Chess despite the fact that I'm not very good at it, however being a fellow who has been around for a while I mainly play Chess in order to keep the old old brain active.
