@jimmie, funny running into you here :-) If you follow the chess.com android beta Google + group you will see that the new app looks great, and is great some of the time but crashes, handles data incorrectly and more for a sizable numbernof beta testers. Which is the point. Beta testers want to beta test. For that I am grateful. However I do not want to be forced to be an unwilling beta tester. But that is my $0.02 ... And I speak from some experience the last time (recently) the "new app" was rolled out. Not a good experience.
andriod app update pushed out yesterday

Chess.com Classic for whose who want to use old app :)

Hm I got the new app from Google Play. So either the team thinks the app is ready now or this involuntary.
It did not crash on me yet. But it looks absolutely fabulous and also offers much more functionality (like chess mentor), and finally one can filter and search videos in a decent way. So given I do not have to join the club of people being apalled by lacking stability:
Well done!

Is anyone else here seriously dissapointed with with revamp they have made to the android app? I am extremely disappointed with the overhaul and everything is clumsy and hard to figure out. The app crashes constantly and I can't figure out for the life of me how to view game seeks others have posted
New App is TRASH...Design and Functionality - SUCKS!!!!

Well...The new app works just fine, and I like it a lot. Please thank on my behalf whoever implemented Chess Mentor on this app.

Old app updates by itself yesterday. Seems better than last time. It is cool you guys kept the old one.

Why, why, why? I don't want to be a software tester. Give me the old version. Much easier on the eyes.
[OK, I found it, thanks: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chess_v2]

@hreedwork, thanks for the additional information, and I can understand your thinking about that. All I can say is that I have used the new app, and I have not experienced any of those issues.

Considering i just played around with the latest version of the app, and had no issues or problems, im surprised at how many complaints there are.

@I_AM_Second, @jimmie, et al,
You should have used the app the first time around, you would have seen a disaster. The app had to be pulled after just a few days. Plus if you listen to the G+ forums there are still many issues. Hopefully the "usual" functions will work ok. I'll give it a shot. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

honestly, most people just hate change. it's something we deal with all the time and it's hard. obviously there are bugs and we try to squash those. but even without bugs, people get comfortable with stuff and don't like when it changes. i'm the same way! when youtube or facebook or google changes things i get a little frustrated at first! but then i settle in and get used to it and appreciate it :)

@erik, I actually like change. A lot. I am a long time paying chess.com member, and have generally been thrilled with the platform.
What I didn't like last time was an unusable app. At first I was thrilled. For about an hour... then I was really bummed. Then I begged for a rollback.
jimmie_cecil convinced me to give it another try which I am doing now.
PLEASE do not interpret people's hesitation to risk use a broken app (again) as resisting change for the positive. I am trying the app again, and will give feedback as I find things to comment on. Hopefully everything will be fine.

@crazyim5
- we never had premove before... but we do allow you to move your piece and hold it there before your opponent moves.
- i see! maybe we disable animation for games <1 min...
- which notification at top?

Premove capability would be really, really nice. I posted a topic about this that didn't get any replies a while ago, maybe now you guys would consider adding this functionality.
Also, where can you choose to play unrated games? I don't want to play rated games on my phone because if my wifi falters (happens often enough), I lose rating. I don't see the option box for that anywhere anymore in the Live Chess UI.

Erik,
Since you are watching this thread (I also submitted a ticket) - - - I am overall happy with the look of the app. I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
However --
I use my tablet to play live games. In my live games there is NO sound. I can not hear when I move or my opponent moves and this is very helpful. Yes, I have checked settings, My sound is ON, and sounds work elsewhere in the app just not in live play.
Also, could we please have the option to have the home screen show our daily games in list view also and not ONLY is diagram (chess board)
Thank you guys for your hard work! From a very loyal Diamond Member
I like the new app.
