Any good players here?

Sort:
Tank_Murdoch

I joined this site because I want to improve in chess. My OTB rating is 987, and the highest I have ever been prior to joining this site is 1150 at Pogo. I also played at Yahoo and at Chess.Org. After a week here, I'm already at 1660 and smearing just about everybody. Is this site got any good players? I'm not going to pay money if I can beat everybody without having to pay. If I pay, will I get some good games?

Pawnm0wer

No, there is no one who can beat you....please go away.

Your rating in a pool of players outside of chess.com has no meaning here.

Your chess.com rating has no meaning when you are not on this site.

I don't think that's entirely true. They say if subtract about 200 points off your turn based rating it's about your elo OTB rating...

No. Take your Scrabble rating and add 200.

Davey_Johnson

1) Your record is 15-8-1 in live chess, so Teary wouldn't exactly call that smearing...

2) As was mentioned, different rating pools with different players are not statistically comparable. Apples and oranges.

3) If you don't think the people you are playing now are enough of a challenge, then play in a stronger range. You would probably be a lot more satisfied if you played some of the 1800-2000 rated players instead of just the 1600-1700's (and you might even get smeared a bit yourself).

4) Or if you want a guaranteed smearing from Teary, then he will be glad to play you a real game of chess (online chess), and not that quick live stuff.

Davey_Johnson

Just went and looked at some of your games as well, and wasn't all that impressed (especially for somebody who makes such bold claims of superiority).

Your 987 OTB rating is of course bogus--that is an absolute novice level, and you display too much opening and tactical familiarity to be a complete novice (maybe you just don't play enough rated tournaments?) But you aren't spectacular either, as your longer 10 minute game highlighted.

Teary would put your true rating (based on what limited games he has seen) more in the range of 1200-1400 USCF, or a D class.

heinzie

987? I'd put a 1 as prefix

To answer the question "Any good players here?", on Sunday nights, Tonydal used to entertain the crowds, but those days are in the past.

wishiwonthatone

there are pathetic players here. Not in terms of play, but in terms of being human. Wonder why I said that...

've found it to be more accurate if it's 300 to 400 subtracted.

Ahhh....but you forget to carry the 4. So it's more like 1600.

Davey_Johnson

It also depends on what you are comparing your chess.com rating to.

You would subtract less for a USCF rating comparison than you would for say, a FIDE rating comparison, because FIDE has a stronger pool of players to start with.

chessmaster102

I'll play you my OTB rating is 1445 and I dont tink your any stronger than a 1300 player and  would be happy  to prove it.Wink

on pogo you start at 1200...so clearly your below the base rating and are junk...and playing 500 chess vs sub 1600 players...not really something to be highlighted

Conflagration_Planet

Nobody but Eric cares if you pay money here or not.

blake78613

I hear this Magnus Carlsen guy is pretty good.

MrKalukioh

Rofl. Op thinks he's a good player.

Now thats comedy.

I think there are a lot of good players on this site. there are many titled and professional players who play on here on use this site. you will probably find much stiffer competition here than on yahoo or something. then again, this site monitors cheating, yahoo doesn't. so when you play on yahoo, there's a good chance you are playing against an engine not an actual person, people have even created chess playing programs specifically for yahoo, the one I have heard of is called 'gambitron' or something.

Davey_Johnson

haha yeah, they have pretty much created cheating programs for every yahoo game these days. Teary still remembers testing out the auto-aimer for yahoo pool =P
