Botvinnik, the 6th world champion, was famous for his disdain of speed chess.
So much so that one time he had a training partner play some speed chess with him to help him prepare for a match... this person was sworn to secrecy and only told the story on his deathbed.
As for being bad at it... bad is sort of relative here. If you've spent your life (or at least thousands of hours) playing and learning chess you're going to be pretty good at blitz and bullet... if you never play speed chess then you wont be as good as your peers who play it often, but you'll be pretty good.
For example Caruana is the world #2, and the only guy other than Carlsen over 2800 at the moment, but he's supposedly "bad" at speed chess... he could probably give me queen odds in a 3 | 0 game and win (ok, not every game), but compared to his classical time control peers he's not very good.
I have yet to see one NM, IM or GM declaim against blitz or bullet. They all seem to be great at speed chess. Does anyone know of a very strong player who despises, or sucks at bullet/blitz?
