Any of you stop playing for a long time then come back?

When I was in my 20's I got really into chess for awhile.  I'm not sure what my rating was but for awhile I was unemployed and just studying chess all day.  I could see like 8 moves ahead, read long transcripts of games without having to use a board, if chess was a language I think I became fluent.  Then I basically gave up the game overnight and started a few days ago having not played for 10 years.

It's pretty frustrating how bad I am.  Not just that I am hanging pieces, missing mates, etc. but I look at a board and feel lost, like I don't speak the language anymore.  Have any of you been this scenario?  I hope I get it back fast!

It's just sad to be like well everything is developed and I don't see an attack, I guess I'll move this side pawn forward.  Whereas before it was like Be4 threatens attack on g pawn which could bring a defender off c4 square so we could trade and I could have protected knight placement.  That probably doesn't actually make sense but I know that's how I used to think, now it's aw well, I'm gonna try to get this rook in an open file!

I played the game as a casual hobby when I was a kid, and stopped 20 years ago. At first I was horrible, hanging pieces left and right, but after a few weeks I started playing better and now I am surely a lot better than 20 years ago.

I wrote a post on my experiences, and if you wish you may use it as a guide on how to improve your game:

I hope you'll have fun bettering your game.
