Remember your mistakes so you don't make them again

What is your goal?  Online or face-to-face play?  What time control?

Fast time controls are about tactics.  Tactics Trainer is potentially helpful.  Oddly, I think it is more helpful if you do not play fast but instead try to solve every problem correctly--otherwise it's easy to dismiss the ones you don't solve, but those are exactly the ones you could learn from.  Be sure to work through the solution of every problem you get wrong.

Slow time controls use more skills, and you would want to start with an assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.  For example, I have been trying to raise my rating and I knew my endgame play was bad.  I did all of the Chess Mentor endgame lessons and as many endgame puzzles as I could find.  I have drawn a couple of endgames against Experts recently so it apparently helped.

Look at the games you lose.  Did you go wrong in the opening, middlegame, or endgame?  Did you miss a tactic or get crushed positionally?  What kinds of positions do you play worst?  Games you lose are more important to improvement than games you win.

Depending on your temperment, you may also need to take a vacation from blitz/bullet while trying to improve.  Blitz/bullet reinforce how you are already playing but aren't so great for changing it.  Try 10 or 15 minute chess, or day-per-move chess, instead.

Play strong players every chance you get, but not super strong--around your own rating to rating+200 is good.  Very strong players tend to be bad for morale, but ones a little stronger than you are educational without being hopelessly discouraging.
