Anyone else play worse on a physical board?

That is so true, I practice online and when I get on a chess board. I get so cross-eyed to the extent of me not recognising key openings.

Still, I suppose the internet has to be good for something 😀... doubt I’ll use a physical board this year (I’ve two in the house, but my wife refuses to play, and no one else is allowed in the house until at least Easter!)

Yes, same here... Also, I play better on some interfaces than on others...

I've noticed this as well. I'm not a psychologist nor a neuroscientist but it seems your brain doesn't render 2D and 3D images the same. When I started playing I played OTB and when I began to play online about two years ago I just couldn't get accustomed to the online 2D image. Now after 2 years of mostly online play I'm having serious problems playing on a real chessboard like you say. It seems to work both ways, I've watched an interview with GM Maxime Vachier Lagrave who said that it's been difficult for him to adjust to online play after so much time playing exclusively over a real chess board.
I've found that for me it really doesn't matter.....I play equally bad in both formats. But in all seriousness, I used to hate playing online. The 2d pieces were confusing to me when I first started playing online.

It's a definite adjustment but your brain gets used to one or the other pretty quick, until you try to switch again.

I use left hand to move pieces OTB, but I (almost) have to use the right to operate mouse. Sooo... it feels weird for me to move in online chess.

Most of the time I play way better on a physical board than I do a Virtual board.

I use a DGT e-board, I often use it to play matches on chess.com (I'm a novice, two-accounts 671/751 - smurfing, yeah sort of...). However, I have evaluation blind-spots with the board. For example, I might be able to move/protect my pieces with relatively the same accuracy, but I fail to see my opponent's plan. The more I play the difference between the screen and actual board is becoming subtle, as I train my brain to the 3D perspective. My goal is to eventually play all my matches with the board on a single account.

That happens when u play Too Much Online chess.Your eyes gets a feel of Only that type of pieces At online and u need a practice of otb otherwise ' TILT '

I play worse when I'm playing on a very small board, but if I'm playing on a normal/big board then I don't notice any change
