I don't know the details; I'm not a programmer. I do know that the handicapped strength of the commercial Delfi Trainer engine claims to be independent of CPU speed.

Working in the Arena GUI. I'm trying to get the engines to be dialed in pretty consistently the same strength as far as ELO. My question is concerning hardware. Say we start with ELO 1800. Arasan, or Rybka, doesn't matter. Will the 1800 on each engine(X) be the same consistent strength across computer hardware with different processing speeds (Can the programmer dial it in so elo (X) is always the same) or will ELO(X) depend on proc speed? So far, the only way I've found to keep engines at consistent strength across hardware and time is to use a ply search method, which is the same regardless of hardware. (Used Kchess for 15 years, ply search is always exactly the same strength on at least 20 different computers)
