honestly if one were to want to get better at chess, either get a platinum or diamond membership on chess.com so you can actually use the tools to help you get better (unlimited analysis, unlimited puzzles, lessons) or you can use Lichess, which has all of that, but for free.  (hint hint chess.com we need you to stop profiting off of our ambitions to get better at chess)

Hey, does anyone have over 1600 rapid rating over here? We gt keep the chain going

And then we realize how much better Magnus actually is compared to all of us under 2000 rating xD

Okay, I’ll bite. How?

No idea what the op will say, but 800 is very reachable with some time and practice. Doing puzzles alone (if done correctly) can probably get most to 800+ with little else. Same thing with going over basic checkmate patterns and basic endgames. Add those to opening principles and you are almost certain to get over 1000 rating with some time implementing these ideas happy.png

This is too much work for some people, but getting 1000+ is not that difficult really - you just have to put in the work and trust the learning process. grin.png

tbh, this seems kind of sus. How do we know you aren't super good at chess already and are trying to farm us all for rating? Your account was created only yesterday grin.png

Seriously though, improving at longer time controls is better when starting out because the ability of "chess" you learn there is transferable to speed chess but not the other way around. I recommend at least 10 min+ games or even closer to 30 min+ if you can afford it. That way, you have extra thinking time if you need it.

All of you, who want to get to 800, I will train you personally. There is no magic formula. But I will see your games and will tell your mistakes and will help you get there quickly

Tbh, reach 1000 rating yourself before you could say that...

Then again, Magnus Carlsen may say the same thing about 1800 rated coaches lol

Learn the game yourself before “training” others.

From someone who was approximately your strength less than a year ago, let me say you aren’t good.

You still frequently hang pieces at your rating range.

Despite being far better now, I still know I’m not good enough to train others personally.

At least break 1000 first.
