Are Central Pawns Overrated in Endgames?

I've never really thought about it before, but aren't central pawns kind of overrated? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a center pawn than a flank pawn in the MIDDLEGAME, but by how much is a central pawn better in an endgame, or is it even better? For example, would you rather have a passed c pawn or e pawn in an endgame? If they're both on the 7th/2nd rank, it wouldn't really matter, but generally speaking, wouldn't you take the c pawn?

What do you mean overrated? It's common knowledge that flank pawns are (usually) more valuable passers than center pawns in the endgame.

That's one of the interesting things about chess, as the game transitions the values of certain elements change, to the point that sometimes they're inverted.

Huh. I guess I've been hearing different stuff then...

If you've been hearing "different stuff" then you haven't been listening to anyone who knows what they're talking about.

It's well known that "the off-side majority" is an advantage in the endgame. Sometimes a winning advantage.

It doesn't make enough sense to correct other than to say it's wrong.
