Yes, that's obvious. Figure it out.

I gave you A or B and your answer is "yes"

Ok then, so you have no point, too bad.

Modern chess has no resemblance to the game played in India. As Kasparov has said, the game we play today, modern chess, is a European invention? And who are these Indian champions you speak of? Other than Anand there are none! And the only reason Anand became champion was because Kasparov decided to retire early to focus on politics. He was always second or third fiddle to him. And no, for a country that size they haven't produced much in the way of strong chess players. It is China that has world championship potential players, not India.

Modern chess also bears little resemblance to the game played in Europe for centuries before the Renaissance. Europeans did not invent chess, they just (over some time) made some changes in a game they picked from the Arabs, who acquired it when they conquered Persia, where it had spread from India.

Today there three Indian GMs in the world's top 25. China has produced more GMs and top players because the Chinese Communist Party has a program for finding and developing chess talent. Do you think that Russians have superior innate chess talent, or is it just that the USSR had such a program?

Do you know how many chess players there are in India? Do you know if the average rating there is better or worse than anywhere else? It's foolish to think that the tiny fraction of super-GM strength players in a country is a reflection of the strength of the average player there.

If you took the sum total of the ratings of all the chess players in a country and divided by the population (including non-players) in order to get an average for the entire population, I suspect that Azerbaijan would end up in first place.

FFS, there are over a billion people in India. This question is pretty racist.

  • Personally I found good players in India & Russia.
  • Good players are every where in the word.

Did Americans INVENT agriculture just because they invented most modern agricultural machines and developed gene modification? Did K-pop performers INVENT music just because it's the hottest thing right now? Did Florentines INVENT sculpture because their artists of Renaissance times are considered to be the best? Inventing something means coming up with the original idea. Europeans did not INVENT chess, they just made changes in something they learned from somebody else. If in the future someone from some other part of the world comes with changes in chess that turn out to be more popular than the present version would that mean the we are not really playing chess, but some other inferior game? (Incidentally, dice were used in European chess for centuries.)

You seem to have missed the point that some countries have a great chess tradition and many of their citizens play chess. Other countries don't. Some governments encourage and support chess, others don't. Do you know what the Indian government does for its players? Do you know how many Indians actually play chess? Do you know how their average rating compares to the rest of the world? After all, Africa has a much larger population than India but far fewer GMs. Would this mean that Africans on the whole can't play chess as well as Indians?

You complain that I don't provide verification for my statements but the only things you cite as "facts" are things you or someone who agrees with you said. Where is YOUR proof?

You should understand that calling others half-wits and illiterates does little to advance your arguments or convince others that you know anything. Saying something that actually makes sense would be more persuasive.

(Incidentally that 1200 rating you denigrate so severely--as if chess strength has any relation to intellect--is what is given to those who haven't played on chess.com, which is the case with me. I signed on to access the openings database and use the analysis function to look at my otb games. Top US Chess Federation rating about 2100.)

This could turn into another convo about intersectionality, heteronormativity, or something equally cringe. Too much is viewed through that sort of lens on here.

Once again, make a SJW part of the forums.

Chaturanga - Wikipedia maybe this will enlighten you

I saw a post the other day saying it was invented by women in Europe.

So now I'm confused sad.png

Probably virtue signaling.

chess rules were changed over time but i do not think that tinfoilhat knows the definition of the word "invented"

Seirawan credits India in his "winning chess" series, so I think I'll go with that.
