@Batgirl, good point -- owning a chess set does not prove that a person played chess.  And as you mention, even his ownership of a chess set is in doubt.

I have no doubt that you know much more chess history than me.  So if you doubt that Washington played chess, then so do I.  I don't remember where I got that list (maybe Wikipedia); not sure how reliable it is.

Regarding the list:

I'm not aware of a single indication that George Washington even knew how to play chess whereas Josip Broz Tito, who was well-noted as a chess player isn't mentioned. It mentions Bono, but not Sonny Bono.

This is a proof he didn't play chess. She would knew it

I don't know that he did or didn't play. I'm just saying there is no proof, or even an indication - of which I'm aware - that he did play chess or even own a chess set.

Washington saw what chess did to Franklin and Jefferson and said, "No thanks; I'll stick to women."

I thought Franklin and Jefferson were the playboys.

Not compared to George.  He got the nickname "Father of His Country" for a reason, bud.

Chicken_Monster

Serial Killers Who Played Chess (one tried to kill 64 people -- one for each square). He almost got there before getting caught. One played chess in the manner in which he hunted his victims.
