If yes, what are some of them?

a good blockading point where your officers and pawn can hold on no matter what, it must be strong enough.by seeing all tactical positions that may arrive in your favor and by counter attack  any pawnstorming can be put to a halt. remember always to be on the upperhand of move so that there will be no weaknesses on your part.

A general rule of thumb, which like other such rules needs to be applied judiciously is that premature flank attacks are best met with counterplay in the center.

Otherwise, pay attn to Estragon and paulgottlieb, esp Paul's cardinal rule: Don't Panic, which I believe he "borrowed" from The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.

So are you saying that you need to generally keep your pawns on that side as still as possible?
