Are titled players chicken?

How do I get titled players to play me a game?  I haven't played any games yet, but was hoping to play  a titled player.  I get this message when I try to challenge a titled player....'Oops?! We noticed the following errors in your form.  xxxx is currently not available for challenges.'   Any way around this?  Are all the titled player chicken?  Scared of having their scored lowered?  It's just a game website. Thanks!

People want to learn from the best. They don't want 50+ challenges a day!

play some games. they may take you more seriously if you do.

At least some titled players will only play members who have contributed to this site by purchasing a membership (and who don't call them chickens).

There is no way they could play every person that challenges them. You may want to get some games under your belt to see what your rating is at first. If it's high enough, you might get a game with a titled player. Also, since they aren't open to challenges, perhaps you should send them a message. You may have a lot more success than calling them out on a public forum.

Oh, and i'm sure they didn't get that good by being chickens.

I agree your topic name is a bad one. Of course they are not, some of them might be but not more or less than any other player. Probably less.

Of course many players want to play great opponents and I guess they get more challenges than they'd want to accept. You can either ask one in person or get to know one or get someone really smart start playing chess;)

Anyways I think your language isn't helping. If you had started a topic like: I'd like to play a titled player. You'd probably have some challenges at all

*blinks in shock at the arrogant ignorant oringial post*

Im not, and never will be, a titled player but, ephyfe, ye will now not get a game against even me, or play in any tournament i setup, with an attitude like that.

It may be "just a games website" to ye... but it is a community to most of us, one that we appreciate and respect. Maybe ye can learn from this and attempt to become part of the community.

Have an ounce of sense..would ye really speak that way to those people's, or our, faces? If ye did, ye would likely have trouble speaking fer a while after. As has been said time and time again, posting on the internet is not a licence to be rude.

Play a lot of games so they'll be interested in playing you.

well I don't think many if any are reading my post here.  But I have tried to email a couple and one woman wanted to teach me lessons, but no game.  My guess is that they don't want their score lowered, and even if they beat me they'llgo down some.  Like the ranking on this site is sooooo important.  Well that's OK.  Some of you guys are sensitive to a point of being feminite.  At least I didn't say chicken shit.  I guess you guys never post on yahoo.

Why haven't you played any games yet? A high rating will get their attention faster then your current method.

"Chicken shit" would have made more sense than "feminite," although neither adjective (the vulgar phrase or the word you made up) really does the job.  First off, you can't lose points on a win here, no matter how big the disparity between the opponents' ratings.

Try to think of it as a question of return on investment:  What do your titled hypothetical opponents get out of playing you?  A boring, easy win and +2 points to their rating, if your skills are on par with most people's.  Woo hoo.

On the other hand, maybe you're already a really strong player and you get a draw or better with your introductory 1200 rating.  Well, I guess that's nice for you, but a raw deal for your opponent.

Ratings are important to lots of people here because they are an index of achievement and because they help open the door to interesting, instructive games between well-matched opponents.

The more interesting question for me in all of this is why you think you're too good to play non-titled chessers.

maybe i can get them to play if I ask them to play a nonrated game.  Has anyone tried to get a titled person to play with success?

I don't even think fear of rating loss has anything to do with it, I just suspect that titled players don't want to waste their time on a wildcard opponent with no games played when they could instead play an engaging game against a player they're more certain is going to be at their level.  I'm certainly not a titled player and probably never will be, but I do get a lot of random challenges from much lower rated opponents and, while I've never turned one down, it does make me scratch my head sometimes.

Nope.

The funniest thing about this thread is the fact that titled players here are waaaay more accessible then I ever imagined. Look at their game counts! Some of them are playing 20 games at a time right now against people of all ratings. There is at least one female GM who I watch play everyday almost, anyone, anytime on Live Chess. If you hang out there, it's not even surprising anymore, just next up to get schooled, for hours. It's great! A true honour! So you're so far off, it's not even funny...

 Agreed.

What's proper troll etiquette?  Engage them?  Not-engage them?  Smile?  Switch on a troll-filter when scanning blogs?

Is there any chance ephyfe and is not a troll?

Thought experiment: Can you imagine any non-artificial, non-insane personality writing, "Are Titled Players Chicken?" and its companions, reading them over, approving and then _posting_ them?

If so, does chess.com need a therapy center for the rest of us?

Do trolls serve a useful purpose?   If so, what might that be?

Heh, I saw one thread here a long time ago, entitled something like - click on this!!!! -  his/her first post was something like - I just wanted to see how many hits I could get. A few people responded then one member typed in "Don't feed the trolls!" The thread died :) I like that.
