Are We Getting Some Random Ratings Inflation and Recession?

I think maybe a few months ago I was rated like low-mid 1600s and that was like top 80-something percent. Yesterday I moved from 1710 to 1770 and was only top 88%. Now with the exact same rating I am in the top 92% having leapfrogged like 1,000 players by doing absolutely nothing. I love Chess.com ratings system . . .

The population has changed. How's that a surprise? Of course, it is pleasant to make what appears to be progress, with no effort.Wink

Or is it?

The % figure appears to be updated daily, whereas your rating is updated in real-time. I have a feeling that if you check the rating of other players around the 1710 mark, you will find that their % is roughly in line with what yours was yesterday.

Yeah, I had a big random ratings jump of over 100 points that came out of the blue a few days ago. I guess it's kinda cool that your ratings auto change relative to the chess.com population.
