I believe it's true. I'm a much lower rated player and look at this great picture I made:
Maybe creativity can mean coming up with new strategies and tactics rather than simply being very good at existing ones. Maybe not executing ideas as well as higher rated players, or not having a photographic memory for past games but thinking outside the box more and having a tendency to not produce boring draws even if it means more defeats.
Ask any 2400-2500 if they're more creative than Carlsen and they'll laugh at you.
